Teeralgo is an avarge sized planet on a very uneventfull solar system. Very similar to the Earth it has 1 moon, and is located just far away enough from it's Sun to have favorable living conditions.

Much like Earth Teeralgo has been thru multiple mass extintion events and ice ages. Lets take current Earth and say everything is the same except for how the way fauna and flora lived in the world.

During an extinction event Teeralgo was hit by an asteroid, and this asteroid carried magic within it.
When it hit Teeralgo every little bit of magic it carried got scattered across the world. Inflitrating the soil, water and air, as thousand, millions of years pass, life evolves to take advantage of this imaterial good.

Many of Teeralgo's species "absorbed" this magic, giving them unusual physical, behavioral and neurologic changes.
Magical species stray from common evolutionary paths, adapting quickly to their environments. What could take thousands of years takes only a few generations.

These "magical" changes don't only affect living things, environments also change because of it's influence. They can range from changing the taste of water, sturdiness of a material to rapidly changing landscapes and climate.
The most extreme of these cases is a set of islands south-west of the north pole, these islands rise and fall along a period of about 150-200yrs, causing small earthquakes and even giant waves while they rise or fall.
